Marriage Ammendment
I found the political cartoon on page 254 to be of some interest. It was titled, “A Brief History of Marriage in America. It pretty much gave the face of American notables who each, through time, had his own view of what marriage stood for. Ben Franklin’s depiction of marriage was between a man and a chattel, whatever that is. The Kentucky Fried Chicken man described marriage as a bond between two white people. Ronald Reagan’s interpretation was that it was a sacred bond between two people of the same skin color. They then end the cartoon with George W. Bush trying to pass an ammendment stating that marriage is a sacred bond between a heterosexual man and a heterosexual women. These representations show us that visions of what marriage is, as well as what people’s values are can change over time.
