Kelly Emerling Rauzi

When Kelly Emerling Rauzi is not racing on cross-country skis, running Duluth’s fabulous river trails with her black lab, or taking a pottery class through Lake Superior College’s amazing ceramics program, she can be found bringing passion for writing to her composition students. She’s ever-searching for the better lesson plan, the one that engages both her students’ hearts and minds. Really! A student can engage the heart as well as the mind when writing a paragraph, an expository essay, or a research paper in Kelly’s comp courses. A computer screen is like a canvas upon which we paint our vision of the world using words as our medium.

Professionally speaking, Kelly earned a B.A. in English and German from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. While earning her B.A., she spent a lively semester studying at the University of Paderborn in Germany. Later, she earned a B.S. in English Education from Bemidji State University and then an M.A. in English with an emphasis in Publishing and Print Culture from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. In 2006, Kelly won the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award in the Children’s Literature category for Fearless John: the Legend of John Beargrease; it was a project which grew eventually out of the knowledge and skills gained while earning her Master’s Degree.
